Works like a champ

I flattened every sawzall blade meant for shingles/tar roofs until I tried this blade. Works like a charm. My cordless circular saw wasn't powerful enough and it gave up, so you need a corded or just more powerful saw for cutting through an entire roof. But the blade never gave up, I did need to remove tar buildup at the end of each day and sharpen the edges a bit but that was expected.

Best Roof Cutting Blade

I own a small, 100 year old, A-frame fixer. Every reroof job, ever done, added an additional layer of shingles over the pre-existing roof. There are at least 4 layers to date. The gutter overhangs and ridge side extensions are all rotted and need replacement. Otherwise, the roof does not leak and the 2 1/2 inches of shingles and tar paper layers provides good insulation. So, I needed a blade to cut through it all along a straight edge. Conventional demo blades (available at the usual retail outlets) gum up badly with molten tar and just don’t work properly or last very long. Searching the internet, I came across these weird looking blades that were really just 3 or 5 segmented arms with empty space between. It made a certain sense to me and the YouTube videos, from various users, confirmed the design can cut through roofing and sheathing with no problem. The maker of these blades and the retail source for purchase are one and the same: SMARTMAN Tools. The price point is good and they offer free shipping and quick turn around. They have two models: the 3T and the 5T. I ordered the 3T (3 arm) because it had less surface area than the 5T (5 arm) to accumulate tar residue. I had second thoughts, rethinking that the 5T with 2 extra teeth would cut the sheathing below better. No worries…the 3T cut through the thick roofing and the sheathing like butter. Cutting off the rotted roof over-hangs, all around the house, was a difficult, dirty, and dangerous job for a 70 year old man, up on extension ladders. The BigBlue Roofing Demo Blade, however, exceeding all expectations and made it possible for me to do it with a clean straight edge. The hands on owners of the business actually returned my email inquiries and responded to my concerns. The next phase of my home repair project is to add skylights for every room. Once I decide the exact location, I expect my BigBlue Demo blade will cut the openings, cleanly, along a straight edge. I just have to build out the frames, mount the skylights and do the proper flashing and I’m good to go. This a great product from a great company. I’m a very happy user, indeed.

Works great!

Our large 100+ year old roof had 5 layers of asphalt roofing (over an inch thick) and a layer of sheet metal over 3/4” boards. The 3T blade cut through all of it with a DeWalt circular saw. This blade saved hours of labor.
